Overview01

What is 2,4,5-Trichloroaniline?

2,4,5-Trichloroaniline, abbreviated 245TCA, is an off-white to light tan crystalline powder built on an aniline ring carrying an amino group at C-1 and three chlorine atoms at the C-2, C-4 and C-5 positions.

The amino group is diazotized to form a diazonium salt, and the three chlorine substituents raise the molecular weight and lipophilicity of the finished azo chromophore once it is coupled to a partner component — deepening the shade and improving solvent and migration fastness in the finished pigment.

At Chelora Dyes, 245TCA is crystallised and dried to a controlled particle profile and low moisture, so diazotization and coupling reactions downstream run cleanly and give a consistent, reproducible shade batch to batch.

Handling06

Storage and guidelines

  • Store in tightly sealed original packaging in a dry environment.
  • Keep in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Protect from moisture pickup — the powder can cake if exposed to humid air.
  • Segregate from strong oxidising agents and strong acids.
  • Use compatible containers: lined HDPE bags or drums.
  • Re-seal bags promptly after use to preserve moisture and assay specification.

Handling precautions

2,4,5-Trichloroaniline is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin, and can cause irritation to skin and eyes.

Use dust control measures, chemically resistant gloves, and eye protection during weighing, charging, and any bulk handling operation.

Provide local exhaust ventilation where dust generation is likely, and avoid breathing dust. The substance is also classified as hazardous to aquatic life, so avoid release to drains or watercourses.

Refer to the full Safety Data Sheet for exposure limits, spill containment, disposal, and first-aid measures before use.

Frequently asked questions

What is 2,4,5-Trichloroaniline used for?

2,4,5-Trichloroaniline is diazotized and used as a diazo component in azo pigment and dye synthesis, contributing to red and maroon shades used in pigments, printing inks and coatings.

Why does the trichloro substitution pattern matter?

The three chlorine atoms at the 2, 4 and 5 positions increase the molecular weight and lipophilicity of the resulting azo chromophore, which improves solvent and migration fastness and shifts the shade toward deeper reds.

Is 2,4,5-Trichloroaniline soluble in water?

It is practically insoluble in water. It is soluble in common organic solvents such as ethanol, benzene and dilute acids, and diazotization is carried out as a fine acidic suspension.

What purity do you supply?

Standard technical grade is supplied at a minimum assay of 98%, with moisture and melting range held within tight limits. Higher assay grades can be manufactured to order for sensitive pigment applications.

What packaging sizes are available?

25 kg and 50 kg multiwall paper or HDPE-lined bags, with bulk supply available in 500 kg and 1000 kg jumbo bags.

How should it be stored, and for how long?

In sealed original packaging in a cool, dry, ventilated store away from strong oxidisers. Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture when storage conditions are maintained.

Is it hazardous to handle?

It is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through skin, and is classified as an environmental hazard, so it should be handled with PPE, dust control and adequate ventilation. Review the Safety Data Sheet before any handling operation.

Do you provide a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet covering assay, moisture, melting range and appearance.
