What is Meta Toluidine?
Meta Toluidine, abbreviated MT, is a pale yellow to amber liquid built on an aniline ring carrying an amino group at C-1 and a methyl group at C-3.
The amino group is diazotized to form a diazonium salt, and the meta-positioned methyl substituent gives a distinct electronic and steric profile compared with its ortho- and para-toluidine isomers, influencing diazonium salt stability and the shade of the resulting azo chromophore once coupled to a partner component. MT is produced by reducing meta-nitrotoluene and is also a recognised building block in pharmaceutical, agrochemical and rubber chemical synthesis.
