Overview01

What is 2,5-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline?

2,5-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline, abbreviated 25DCPNA, is a yellow to orange crystalline powder built on an aniline ring carrying an amino group at C-1, chlorine atoms at C-2 and C-5, and a nitro group at C-4.

The amino group is diazotized to form a diazonium salt, and the combination of two electron-withdrawing chlorines and a nitro group stabilises that salt while pushing the resulting azo chromophore toward a bright, fast orange-red shade once it is coupled to a partner component.

At Chelora Dyes, 25DCPNA is crystallised and dried to a controlled particle profile and low moisture, so diazotization and coupling reactions downstream run cleanly and give a consistent, reproducible shade batch to batch.

Handling06

Storage and guidelines

  • Store in tightly sealed original packaging in a dry environment.
  • Keep in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Protect from moisture pickup — the powder can cake if exposed to humid air.
  • Segregate from strong oxidising agents, reducing agents and combustible materials.
  • Use compatible containers: lined HDPE bags or drums.
  • Re-seal bags promptly after use to preserve moisture and assay specification.

Handling precautions

2,5-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline is a fine crystalline powder that can cause irritation to skin and eyes, and is harmful if swallowed or inhaled.

Use dust control measures, chemically resistant gloves, and eye protection during weighing, charging, and any bulk handling operation.

Provide local exhaust ventilation where dust generation is likely, and avoid breathing dust. Keep away from open flame and sources of ignition.

Refer to the full Safety Data Sheet for exposure limits, spill containment, disposal, and first-aid measures before use.

Frequently asked questions

What is 2,5-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline used for?

2,5-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline is diazotized and used as a diazo component in azo pigment and dye synthesis, contributing to orange and red shades used in pigments and printing inks.

Why does the dichloro-nitro substitution pattern matter?

The two chlorine atoms and the nitro group together withdraw electron density from the ring, stabilising the diazonium salt formed on diazotization and pushing the resulting azo chromophore toward a bright, fast orange-red shade.

Is 2,5-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline soluble in water?

It is only sparingly soluble in water. It is more soluble in organic solvents such as acetone and hot alcohol, and diazotization is normally carried out as a fine acidic suspension.

What purity do you supply?

Standard technical grade is supplied at a minimum assay of 98%, with moisture and melting range held within tight limits. Higher assay grades can be manufactured to order for sensitive pigment applications.

What packaging sizes are available?

25 kg and 50 kg multiwall paper or HDPE-lined bags, with bulk supply available in 500 kg and 1000 kg jumbo bags.

How should it be stored, and for how long?

In sealed original packaging in a cool, dry, ventilated store away from strong oxidisers, reducing agents and open flame. Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture when storage conditions are maintained.

Is it hazardous to handle?

It is harmful if swallowed or inhaled and can cause skin and eye irritation, so it should be handled with PPE, dust control and adequate ventilation. Review the Safety Data Sheet before any handling operation.

Do you provide a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet covering assay, moisture, melting range and appearance.
