Overview01

What is 2,6-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline?

2,6-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline is a yellow crystalline solid built on a benzene ring carrying a primary amine at C-1, chlorine atoms at C-2 and C-6, and a nitro group at C-4.

That substitution pattern is what makes the molecule such a reliable diazo component. The amine diazotises cleanly under standard acidic conditions, and the flanking chlorines together with the para nitro group give the resulting diazonium salt the stability profile needed for controlled coupling reactions that build azo and disperse dye chromophores.

At Chelora Dyes, 2,6-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline is crystallised and dried to a controlled particle profile and low moisture, so diazotisation and coupling reactions downstream run cleanly and give consistent, reproducible results batch to batch.

Frequently asked questions

What is 2,6-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline used for?

2,6-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline is used chiefly as a diazo component in dye intermediate manufacture. Its aromatic amine is diazotised and coupled to build azo and disperse dye chromophores, and the compound is also used as a synthesis intermediate in agrochemical and pharmaceutical chemistry.

Why is this aniline useful as a diazo component?

The two flanking chlorine atoms and the para nitro group moderate the electron density of the amine, giving a diazonium salt with the stability and coupling behaviour needed for consistent, reproducible azo dye synthesis.

Is 2,6-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline soluble in water?

It has very low water solubility. It is more soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, DMF and hot alcohol, which is why diazotisation is typically carried out in an acidic aqueous-organic mixture.

What purity do you supply?

Standard technical grade is supplied at a minimum assay of 97%, with moisture and melting range held within tight limits. Higher assay grades can be manufactured to order.

What packaging sizes are available?

25 kg and 50 kg multiwall paper or HDPE-lined bags, with bulk supply available in 500 kg and 1000 kg jumbo bags.

How should it be stored, and for how long?

In sealed original packaging in a cool, dry, ventilated store away from strong oxidisers and reducing agents. Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture when storage conditions are maintained.

Is it hazardous to handle?

It is classified as toxic and a suspected environmental hazard and must be handled strictly according to its Safety Data Sheet, with closed handling, dedicated PPE and adequate ventilation.

Do you provide a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet covering assay, moisture, appearance and melting point.
